An apology repairs only when it changes the other person’s risk calculation.

People do not need a theatrical confession. They need ownership, impact, changed behavior, and evidence that they will not pay the same cost again.

A useful apology is specific and operational. "I missed the deadline and left you exposed in the client call. I have moved reviews to Tuesday and will flag risk by noon Thursday" does more than "I am sorry for any inconvenience."

Operator artifact: apology structure: what I did, what it cost you, what caused it, what changes now, when you will see proof.

Field test: Apologize for the specific miss and offer the new operating rule.
