Social awareness is the ability to read the work system before acting inside it.

Facts matter. So do fatigue, fear, informal authority, incentives, recent scars, and the thing nobody wants to say while the senior person is in the room. Operators who ignore that layer confuse resistance with irrationality.

This is not mind-reading. It is disciplined observation. Who goes quiet? Which risk gets joked about but never owned? What decision keeps returning after everyone supposedly agreed? Those cues tell you where the system is not ready.

Operator artifact: before a consequential meeting, write a context note: decision needed, exposed people, likely hidden objection, emotional weather, and safest way to surface truth.

Field test: Before pushing a decision, identify who is cautious, who is exposed, and what the room is avoiding.
